Head Football Coach and offensive coordinator : Matt Howard
Matt Howard’s coaching career began at Long Beach City College in 1998. He coached the offensive line at LBCC from 98-2001. In 2001 Matt was hired at Long Beach Wilson as the offensive line coach. He began teaching and coaching at Paramount in 2003. In 2006-2007 Matt was the Varsity offensive coordinator at PHS. Coach Howard went back to coach the O-line at LBCC during 2008-2009 seasons. In February 2010 Coach Howard was hired as the Head Football Coach at Paramount.
Matt graduated from Lakewood High School in 1994.He then attended and played football at LBCC from 1994-1995, and was a member of 1995 National Championship football team, along with Rafa Villasenor. Matt received a scholarship to West Liberty State College and played football there in 96-97. In 1999 Matt graduated from CSUDH with a bachelor’s degree in history.
Coach Howard has been happily married to his high school sweetheart, Melissa for twelve years. They are raising their daughters; Morgan 10, and Mackenzie 12 in Bellflower, Ca. In his spare time, Coach Howard enjoys working on his Harley Davidson motorcycle or his 1948 Chevy Fleetline.
Defensive Coordinator: Michael Fletcher
Michael Fletcher is a Paramount graduate, Class of 1995. Coach Fletcher has a very decorated past in the game of football. This all began at Paramount where he was a three year starting QB, 1993 and 1994 MVP. He received a scholarship to attend Oregon University where in 1999 he was named the MVP of the football team, and in the same year graduated with a degree in journalism. After college, Coach Fletch played in the CFL for 9 years, and was a two time Grey Cup Champion.
Coach Fletch joins the coaching staff and plans to do everything it takes to return the Pirates to a proud football program. He will be running the defense, implementing many of his concepts that he learned while playing at Oregon and in Canada.
Mike lives with his wife Brandi Sharp-Fletcher, PHS class of 1994. They are the proud parents of three daughters; Ryan 10, Reese 2, and Reagan 6 months.
Offensive Speccialist: Kevin Hooks
OL and DL Coach: Anthony Morelli
Anthony Morelli’s coaching career began at Hoover High School in Glendale in 2005. He was the Head Freshman Coach in 2005 and then coached the Varsity defensive line in 2006 and 2007. He began teaching World History and coaching at Paramount High School in 2008. In 2008 he coached the Varsity defensive line. In addition to coaching the defensive line in 2009, he was also the Head JV Coach. Coach Morelli was the head JV Coach from 2009 through 2013. Durring his tenure as the JV Head coach the JV team won league titles in 2011 and 2012.
Coach Morelli graduated from Burbank High School in 1990. He then attended Glendale City College where he played one year of football. Anthony then transferred to CSULB and he played four years of college rugby while earning his bachelors degree in 1995. Coach Morelli has since gone on to earn his teaching credential and master’s degree.
Coach Morelli lives in Long Beach with his wife Kathy and their son Warren. In his spare time, Coach Morelli enjoys traveling and spending time with family.
Defensive line: Johnny Tivao
Johnny Tivao attended PHS from 2003-2007. He was a stand out as a freshman and a 3year varsity letterman in football. After high school he attended Cerritos Community College where he was a 2year starter for the Falcons. Coach Tivao then tranferred to Texas A&M Kingsville in Kingsville, Tx. Coach Tivano played there from 2010-2012. He then completed his education at CSUDH in sociology. This is his first year coaching at Paramount High School

Kicking Coach: Rafa Villasenor
Coach Rafa Villaseñor (Coach V.) is a Paramount High Alumni from the Class of 1994, where he was a running back, strong safety and kicker, as well as a center fielder for the Baseball team. Coach V. played with a couple of the Coaching Staff; Albert Perez, Michael Fletcher, Jared Halk, and James Allen. During Coach V’s tenure at PHS, he was named Defensive Player of the Year in the San Gabriel Valley League as well as 2nd team running back, and was also named All CIF Div. II Strong Safety. Other awards were being part of the 1993/1994 Press Telegram Dream Team and Los Angeles Times All South Coast Team, along with Coach Howard and Coach Fletcher. Coach V. also played in the 605 All Star Game.
Coach V. continued playing at Long Beach City College, where he was a member of the 1995 National Championship Football team at LBCC, along with Matt Howard. Coach V. later transferred and received his degree from USC in 1999. In 2002 he received his credential from CSUDH in Special Ed. He began his teaching career in 2001 in LAUSD, and arrived at PHS in 2004, where he started his coaching career. He also has two brothers coaching with him, Nacho c/o 88’ who helps the kickers and Jorge c/o 99’ is the Offensive Coordinator for the freshman team. Coach V. was also a Co/Head coach for the 2010 Boys Soccer CIF Div. III/State Div. I Championship team in PHS. He continues to balance both Football and Soccer.
Coach V. has been married for 11 years to Maribel and has two daughters, Samantha 7 and Lianna 5. He lives in Lake Forest and enjoys spending time with his family and friends. Coach V. also enjoys mountain bike riding and going to the USC football games. Fight On!
OL and DL Coach: Jarred Halk
Coach Jarred Halk in another Paramount alumni that is back to rebuild the Pirate football program. Coach Halk was a two year varsity starter at tight end and defensive end. Coach Halk is proud to say that the teams’ overall record was 19-4 while he was playing. Upon graduation Jarred enrolled at Mount San Antonio College where he played offensive guard for two years. His coaching career began as a freshman OL/DL coach in 2005. Jarred is excited to join this young and energetic staff under Coach Howard. He is looking forward to the season, and is very optimistic about turning the program around.
Kicking Coach: Nacho Villasenor
Ignacio Villasenor has joined the staff to assist with the kickers. “Nacho” was a member of the 1988 CIF Champion Football team and graduated from PHS in 1989. While at Paramount he was also a three year varsity soccer player. Nacho is excited to bring his knowledge of the Paramount tradition to the team, and looks forward to seeing the program turn around. Nacho is married with no children.
OL/DL Coach: David Osuna
David Osuna played football for Paramount all 4years. David graduated in 1996 with two league titles in football. He also wrestled at 215lbs. as a senior and took second in league as well as a CIF qualifier. He went on to play College football at Mou nt San Antonio Junior College. Coach Osuna played defensive end. In 1998 he had a tragic dirt bike riding accident which paralyzed him from the chest down. Coach Osuna competes in wheelchair sports as well as marathons. He transferred to Cal State Fu llerton where he earned a B.A in History and is currently working on his teaching credential. He coached pop warner for a year and has always wanted to return to Paramount to help them return to their winning traditions. Thanks for the opportunity co ach Howard
